Artist Statement

During my individual exploration of art and the art world, I’ve found a connection between my artistic values and the values found in Surreal Symbolism. The themes on Surrealism I mainly utilize would be Symbolism, Levitation, and Dislocation. The main symbolic vehicle I use in my work is the Language of Flowers and will dictate what each piece is roughly about. In order to use this floral language consistently, the flowers used in my work will be referencing the book by Cheralyn Darcey titled ‘Flowerpaedia 1000 flowers and their meanings’. Furthermore, any specific Surreal ideas may reference the book ‘The Dream Dictionary from A to Z’ by Theresa Cheung, amongst other personal dreams and experiences. By focusing on Surreal themes, I hope to create conversations about my personal work that’s inspired by my lived experiences. I also hope to show how art can have a deeper meaning other than to just be beautiful.

My goal is to use the parameters of Surreal Art themes to help convey ideas, emotions, and personal experiences to better connect myself to others and put those experiences into physical form. To put it more simply, my art depicts experience and parts of my life that I’ve made beautiful to connect it to others. So far, I have shown in many galleries throughout Washington State and Idaho and continue to show in galleries regularly. However, I hope to more deeply involve myself in the art world and work towards my own artistic career. My wish is for my work to have an impact on others and to create work that will tell my story long after I am gone.
